Antisemitic flyers bearing swastikas have been scattered across at least four Oakland County communities, including Farmington Hills over the past six to eight weeks, with the latest batch discovered Monday, July 27, in Berkley and Southfield.

Police in Berkley, Southfield, Huntington Woods, and Oak Park are all investigating. No arrests have been made.

Jewish Federation of Detroit CEO Steven Ingber told CBS News Detroit on Friday, July 31, that the materials had appeared "about four or five different times at four or five different cities" with someone "just driving by and putting them on people's lawns or in people's mailboxes."

ADL Michigan Director Elyssa Schmier told WXYZ that Berkley alone had been targeted three times in two to three months. Berkley police said the flyers were likely thrown from a moving vehicle near 12 Mile Road and Coolidge Highway, while Southfield's batch turned up near 12 Mile and Greenfield roads.

Southfield Police Lt. Mostapha Bzeih said the department condemns the behavior and called Southfield "a community built on diversity, inclusion and mutual respect."

Farmington Hills precedent

The pattern is familiar locally. On Saturday, October 5, 2024, residents near 14 Mile Road and Farmington Road found more than 100 plastic bags stuffed with antisemitic material on their front lawns. The Farmington Hills Police Department investigated that incident in coordination with state and federal law enforcement and the ADL, according to a department press release.

"The timing of this detestable activity exacerbates the chilling effect on our community," FHPD Chief Jeff King said in the October 2024 press release. "This type of hateful activity will not be tolerated in Farmington Hills."
