A collection of black-and-white photographs capturing Michigan's landscapes, lighthouses, waterfalls, and Detroit architecture is on display at KickstART Gallery in downtown Farmington through Saturday, August 8.
The exhibition, titled "Michigan in Contrast," features the work of Plymouth-based photographer Carol LaBelle. It presents Michigan landmarks and natural scenery rendered in black and white. Every piece is available for purchase, with proceeds supporting both the artist and KickstART's community programming, according to the gallery's social media.
LaBelle, who operates LaBelle Photography, LLC and serves as an ambassador for Michigan State Parks, photographs lakeshores, rivers, lighthouses, waterfalls, the Upper Peninsula, and Detroit's built environment. On her artist biography page, she describes her focus: "I am drawn to the vibrant landscapes and unique architecture of Michigan, capturing the essence of its natural beauty and cultural landmarks."
The exhibition was curated by Gisvi Pardo de Reyes, KickstART Farmington's Creative Director, who joined the nonprofit in May 2026. GLP Financial is the show's sponsor.
Artist Talk: Thursday, July 23
LaBelle hosts a free Artist Talk at the gallery on Thursday, July 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. The event is open to everyone. Attendees can hear the stories behind the photographs, ask questions, and learn about LaBelle's creative process, according to KickstART's event listing.
KickstART Farmington, founded by executive director Dwayne Hayes, is a nonprofit arts organization that has operated in downtown Farmington for more than a decade. The gallery regularly hosts artist talks and exhibitions featuring local and regional artists.
