Volunteers across Oakland County will spend Saturday, Sept. 19, through Sunday, Sept. 27, picking up litter along county roads as 388 groups tackle 572 miles in the year's final Adopt-A-Road cleanup.

The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) announced the schedule. It is the last of three Adopt-A-Road periods the commission schedules each year, following spring and summer rounds in April and July.RCOC manages more than 2,700 miles of county roads in Oakland County.

"We ask motorists to be alert and slow down when approaching these volunteers working along roadsides," RCOC Managing Director Dennis Kolar said in a Sept. 14 statement.

Bags and vests are provided.

How to participate

Groups interested in adopting a road section can contact the RCOC Permits Division at 248-858-4891 or email [email protected]. An interactive map on the RCOC website shows which sections are available. Participants must be at least 16 years old unless RCOC approves a written waiver.

Each organization picks two of the three annual cleanup windows and is responsible for its designated stretch both times.

After the cleanup

Groups that finish their sections should call the Permits Division at 248-858-4891 to schedule bag pickup. The commission asks volunteers to confirm their contact information is still current during that call.

The fall window closes the 2026 Adopt-A-Road calendar. Residents or organizations interested in joining the program can reach the Permits Division at the same number or at [email protected].
