Farmington landed a B and Farmington Hills a B- in Niche's 2026 Crime and Safety grades for Metro Detroit suburbs.

The data and analytics website's grades are based on FBI crime data, CDC health statistics and resident survey responses. Patch reported the rankings Wednesday, Sept. 9, publishing the full list, which spans A+ down to B-. No Metro Detroit community scored below B-. Both cities' grades also appear on Niche's own site, where Farmington's profile and Farmington Hills' profile each carry a 2026 Best Places badge and a dedicated Crime & Safety section.

Farmington's B puts it alongside Birmingham, Troy and Royal Oak. Farmington Hills shares the B- tier with Canton Township and Sterling Heights. Lake Angelus was the only suburb to earn an A+.

Residents can review local incident data directly through Farmington's CrimeMapping portal, which the Department of Public Safety updates from its own records system.

Neither the Farmington Department of Public Safety nor the Farmington Hills Police Department had issued a public statement on the rankings as of Thursday, Sept. 10.
