The Farmington Farmers and Artisans Market is open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday through November 7 at the Walter E. Sundquist Pavilion, 33113 Grand River Ave. at Grove Street in downtown Farmington.
The market draws an estimated 3,000 to 4,000 visitors each Saturday, according to a Patch report on downtown Farmington business activity. It features local produce, handmade goods, and artisan crafts from dozens of Michigan farmers and makers.
Live music runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Saturday. Master gardeners are on site to answer gardening questions, and a Kids Highlight Calendar lists family-friendly activities throughout the season, according to the market's Michigan.org listing.
The market has won "Best Farmers Market in Metro Detroit" in WDIV's Vote 4 the Best contest for at least seven consecutive years through 2024.
A downtown landmark since 2005
The Sundquist Pavilion opened in 2005 after Walter E. Sundquist, owner of Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home, made a large donation to fund the structure. The City of Farmington and Wayne State University had developed a plan to create a centralized gathering place for a farmers market and other events, according to the Downtown Farmington Center. Riley Park, which surrounds the pavilion, was named for George F. Riley, whose foundation donated funds for the park's construction.
Oakland Community College has been a featured market sponsor. At the market's 32nd opening day on Friday, May 9, 2025, OCC Chancellor Peter Provenzano Jr. called the partnership "one of our stronger partnerships."
Beyond the weekly market, Riley Park and the pavilion host Rhythmz in Riley Park, Swing Farmington, and the Harvest Moon Celebration later in the fall, according to the city's parks and recreation department.
