The American Red Cross is calling for blood donors at a Farmington Hills drive on Wednesday, Sept. 9, one of several free community events in the Farmington and Farmington Hills area through Saturday, Sept. 12.
The city is partnering with the Red Cross for a "Battle of the Badges" blood drive from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Costick Activities Center's Wexford Room, 28600 W. 11 Mile Road. The Red Cross said scheduled donations have dropped sharply, creating an urgent need for donors, according to the Oakland Press. Appointments can be made at RedCrossBlood.org using sponsor code "costickcenter" or by calling 1-800-733-2767.
Sept. 12 brings two events on opposite ends of Grand River Avenue.
Free child car seat inspection
The Farmington Hills Fire Department is offering free car seat inspections from 8 a.m. to noon at Fire Station #3, 29260 Grand River Ave. Appointments are required. They must be confirmed by Thursday, Sept. 10. Parents can register by emailing [email protected]. The city announced the event on its website Sept. 2.
"Car seat installation can be confusing because every vehicle and every seat is a little different, but getting it right is one of the most important steps in protecting children during a crash," Farmington Hills Fire Chief Jon Unruh said. "I'm proud of our team's expertise and dedication. They take the time to work with each family to make sure every seat is installed safely."
