Farmington and Farmington Hills residents can cast ballots starting Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Costick Activities Center, 28600 11 Mile Road.

Early in-person voting runs through Sunday, Nov. 1, according to Farmington Hills’ election information and Farmington’s early-voting page. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday through Wednesday and Friday. Thursday hours shift to noon to 8 p.m.

The Nov. 3 general election ballot is long. Farmington Hills voters will choose candidates for governor, secretary of state, attorney general, U.S. senator, state representative, circuit court judges and school board members, according to a city notice. A Farmington Public School District bond proposition for voters in that district and a state proposal on whether to convene a constitutional convention are also on the ballot.

Voters who requested absentee ballots can return them anytime before polls close at 8 p.m. on Election Day. The state says ballots must reach the voter’s local clerk by that deadline, with an exception for qualifying military and overseas ballots. Farmington Hills City Clerk Carly Lindahl has reminded voters that they must sign the outer purple envelope for the absentee ballot to count.

A missing or mismatched signature must be corrected before the ballot can count. Voters have until 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, to submit a signature correction form to their local clerk, according to Michigan’s signature-correction guidelines.

Lindahl also addressed voters without photo identification. She told C&G Newspapers that voters who lack a photo ID can still cast a ballot by completing an affidavit stating they do not possess one.

Voters who do bring ID can present a Michigan driver's license or state ID, current or expired. Other accepted IDs must be current: an out-of-state driver's license or personal ID card, a federal or state government-issued photo ID, a U.S. passport, an education institution ID with photo, or a military or tribal ID with photo.

The registration deadline for mail and online registration is Monday, Oct. 19. After that date, Farmington Hills residents can still register in person at the Farmington Hills City Clerk's Office, 31555 W. 11 Mile Road, with proof of residency. Farmington residents must register with their own local clerk.

The Farmington Hills clerk's office is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with extended hours on Thursday, Oct. 29, from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 31, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. In-person registration remains available through 8 p.m. on Election Day.

The city will begin early tabulation of absentee ballots on Thursday, Oct. 29, from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Costick Activities Center, according to a city tabulation notice. About 68 inspectors will staff the count.

Sample ballots and full proposal text are available at mi.gov/vote or by calling the Farmington Hills clerk's office at 248-871-2410. Polls on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3, open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.
