The joint Farmington/Farmington Hills Commission on Children, Youth and Families will hold a special meeting Thursday, Sept. 10, to vote on its 2026-27 Strategic Action Plan.

The meeting starts at 6 p.m. at The Hawk, Room 382, 29995 Twelve Mile Road in Farmington Hills. It marks the commission's first session since June 4; the body does not meet in July or August.

Two substantive items top the agenda. Commissioners will discuss the Upward Mobility Initiative, a topic appearing on the commission's agenda for the first time. They will also take up the 2026-27 Strategic Action Plan, which will set the commission's goals for the coming year.

Chair Tanya Nordhaus pushed the plan's approval from the May 7 meeting to September, according to meeting minutes. No public details about the plan's specific priorities or the Upward Mobility Initiative have been released.

The commission also plans to close out its 2025-26 budget with a final expenses discussion. At its May meeting, members weighed how to spend remaining funds, including possible sponsorship of Youth Center events such as Hay Day and a Farmington Hills Fair open house in October.

Nordhaus was elected chair in April alongside Vice Chair Manni Kohli and Secretary Bridget Gibbons. All three were approved unanimously, according to April meeting minutes.

Separately, Farmington Hills was selected June 15 to participate in the National League of Cities' Pathways for Early Childhood Leadership Initiative, a 15-month program supporting cities in strengthening early childhood systems. Whether that initiative connects to the Upward Mobility Initiative on Thursday's agenda is unclear.

Thursday's meeting at The Hawk is a one-time location change. Future commission meetings return to the Community Room at Farmington Hills City Hall.
