The Farmington Community Library's Homeschool Explorations program returns for the 2026-2027 school year with a Block Party session on Friday, Sept. 18, at the Farmington Hills branch.
The free monthly series runs September through April with a December break. Activities are geared toward elementary-aged children, but all ages are welcome. Families considering homeschooling are also invited. No registration or library card is required.
The Sept. 18 session runs from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the auditorium at 32737 W. 12 Mile Rd. in Farmington Hills. Children will build with the library's large blue blocks and other block-based activities, according to the library's event listing.
Parents and guardians must stay and participate. Drop-offs are not permitted.
Each month focuses on a different topic, giving homeschooling families a chance to meet and learn together.
Fall schedule
After the Sept. 18 Block Party, two more fall sessions are planned:
- Oct. 9 — STEAM Day, featuring science, technology, engineering, art and math activities
- Nov. 13 — Puzzle Day, where participants can bring a puzzle to share or swap
Sessions resume Jan. 8, with additional dates on Feb. 12, March 12 and April 9. Themes for those sessions have not been announced.
The program ran on a similar schedule during the 2025-2026 school year, with sessions that included a fire safety presentation by the Farmington Hills Fire Department.
Renovation note
Families planning to attend the Oct. 9 session should note that the Farmington Hills branch will operate under temporary hours from Sept. 21 through Oct. 8. Renovation work begins Sept. 15. The library advises checking farmlib.org for the latest updates on hours and access.
The Oct. 9 STEAM Day falls one day after the temporary-hours window ends.
