Free summer meals available to all kids at Lanigan Elementary through August 7

Any child under 18 can walk into Lanigan Elementary School in Farmington Hills and get a free breakfast or lunch through Friday, August 7, with no paperwork, no enrollment requirement, and no proof of residency.

Farmington Public Schools launched the program Monday, July 20, as part of Michigan's Meet Up and Eat Up initiative, a federally funded Summer Food Service Program administered by the Michigan Department of Education. The district said the meals are open to all children in the community regardless of whether they attend Farmington schools or live within district boundaries.

What's served and when

Breakfast runs Monday through Friday, 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Lunch is served Monday through Thursday, 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. There is no lunch service on Fridays.

The meals are served at Lanigan Elementary School, 23800 Tuck Road, Farmington Hills, MI 48336. The program runs weekdays only through August 7.

Who qualifies

Everyone. The only requirement is that the child is under 18 years old.

About the program

The Summer Food Service Program was created to ensure children continue receiving nutritious meals when school cafeterias close for summer break. Oakland Schools lists Lanigan Elementary as one of the county's participating sites for 2026.
