Madonna University opened its new home field at The Hawk in Farmington Hills with a 77-14 rout of Judson University on Sunday, Sept. 6.

The Crusaders scored three interception-return touchdowns, built a 42-0 halftime lead and cruised to just their second on-field victory in program history.

Colin Tola opened the scoring by jumping a Judson pass and returning it 35 yards for a touchdown with 13:32 left in the first quarter. Christopher Coates added a 34-yard pick-six later in the quarter, and Demetrick Welch ran in a 16-yard score between the two defensive touchdowns. Madonna led 21-0 after one.

Quarterback Kolter Smith finished 19-of-36 for 250 yards and four touchdowns, connecting with Eric Thomas, Hassan Bazzi, Micale McClure and Antonio Sobush. Backup Connor Greif completed 4-of-5 passes for 104 yards and two scores, including a 78-yard strike to Kamren Wilkerson in the third quarter. Andres Rugel capped the defensive effort with a 20-yard interception return for a touchdown in the fourth.

Judson's Jace Velasquez broke the shutout with a six-yard run late in the third quarter. By then, Madonna's defense had forced three interceptions and held the Eagles scoreless for more than three quarters.

The game marked the first football contest at The Hawk, the city-owned recreation and arts complex at 29995 W. 12 Mile Road. The 245,000-square-foot facility became Madonna's official home field after the university and the City of Farmington Hills finalized a partnership in July. The Crusaders previously played home games at Livonia Public Schools and Detroit Catholic Central.

"We're grateful to partner with the Hawk Community Center given its unique resources," Madonna University President Chris Dougherty said when the agreement was announced in July.

Madonna, a member of the Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), launched its football program in 2020 and played its first full season in 2021. The Crusaders' first on-field win came Sept. 13, 2025, a 45-28 victory over the University of Olivet.
