Farmington and Farmington Hills families can sign up for a community discussion on how digital tools are reshaping suicide prevention, hosted by the Oakland County Suicide Prevention Task Force on Thursday, Sept. 24.
The event, titled "2026 Community Discussion: Digital Innovation in Suicide Prevention," runs from 9 a.m. to noon at Oakland Community Health Network, 5505 Corporate Dr., Troy. Attendees can join in person or virtually. Those attending online will receive a meeting link after registering through the event page. Breakfast will be provided. Oakland County's official event calendar also lists registration from 8:30 to 9 a.m.
Public Health Oakland said on X that the discussion will explore how technology creates both new opportunities and new challenges for suicide prevention efforts.
The registration form lists a broad range of target attendees: parents, grandparents, teachers, high school and college students, first responders, behavioral health workers, medical providers, public health educators and veterans.
The event falls during Suicide Prevention Month. A Michigan Department of Health and Human Services report released Wednesday, Sept. 16, found that 1,443 Michigan residents died by suicide in 2024 and that suicide was the second-leading cause of death among Michigan residents ages 10 to 34. Acting MDHHS Director Amy Epkey said in the report that the department is focused on building community connections to reduce suicide deaths.
The host site, Oakland Community Health Network, is Oakland County's public mental health system. OCHN serves residents dealing with mental health challenges, substance use disorders, or intellectual and developmental disabilities.
OCHN operates a 24/7 crisis line at 888-238-0611. The network's non-crisis access line, 248-464-6363, is available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Oakland County's Nurse on Call line is 800-848-5533.
Registration is available through the event page. The Sept. 24 discussion begins at 9 a.m.
