A specialty veterinary clinic could open on West 10 Mile Road in Farmington Hills if the city's Planning Commission grants approval at a public hearing Thursday, Aug. 20.
Applicant Katharine Podsiad filed for special approval to construct the clinic at 29375 W. 10 Mile Road. The site is listed as an office building with access from I-696 and M-5. Property owner Bhlachandra Sata holds the parcel, which sits in the B-3 General Business District.
The hearing is the first public step. Veterinary hospitals in the B-3 district have required special approval since late 2024, when the city reclassified them from principal permitted uses. The Planning Commission recommended that change 6-2 in October 2024, and the city adopted it that fall. The same special approval process applies to drive-through restaurants, auto repair shops and commercial kennels in the district.
The commission will evaluate whether the proposed clinic meets zoning standards for traffic, site design and compatibility with surrounding properties under Section 34-6.3 of the city's zoning ordinance.
The Planning Commission agenda does not describe the clinic's specific specialties, species treated or hours of operation. Those details are expected in the staff report, which had not been posted publicly as of Monday, Aug. 17.
The Aug. 20 meeting also includes a proposed lot split at 34037 Nine Mile Road, where applicant Terry Sever seeks to divide one parcel into three in the RA-3 residential district, and a zoning text amendment revising site plan review procedures.
