Two Farmington Hills natives brought home Emmy Awards from the Creative Arts ceremony in Los Angeles on Saturday, Sept. 5.

Wardrobe designer Sam Spector won Outstanding Costumes for Variety, Nonfiction or Reality Programming for his work on Peacock's The Traitors. Editor Kelly Brickner Lyon won Outstanding Picture Editing for Variety Programming for Disney+'s The Muppet Show, according to Deadline's winners list. Both grew up in Farmington Hills and graduated from the University of Michigan, The Jewish News reported.

Spector's win recognized his costume designs for The Traitors host Alan Cumming, whose looks this season ranged from elaborate kilts to a head-to-toe black outfit inspired by a coffin. Spector said the coffin look had become iconic, noting that actor Jonathan Bennett wore it while hosting the GLAAD Media Awards in March. The winning episode, "The Black Banquet," featured a cape loaded with pearls. Spector shared the juried award with stylist Rikki Finlay.

"Every season keeps getting more and more ridiculous; for the next one, coming out next week, we were supposed to tone it down, and we did not," Spector told The Hollywood Reporter in a backstage interview after the ceremony.

The costume category is a juried award, decided by a panel of industry professionals rather than the full Television Academy membership. Fox's The Masked Singer also won in the category.

The Traitors collected six awards on the night, including Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality Competition Program for Cumming. The show won Outstanding Reality Competition Program in both 2024 and 2025 and is nominated again in that category at the Primetime Emmy telecast on Monday, Sept. 14.

Brickner Lyon, credited professionally as Kelly Lyon, earned her fourth Emmy nomination with The Muppet Show. The show swept several Creative Arts categories, also taking Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded), Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special and Outstanding Production Design for a Variety Special.

The Primetime Emmy ceremony airs Monday, Sept. 14, on NBC from 8 to 11 p.m., with Mariska Hargitay hosting.

The two-night Creative Arts ceremony, held Sept. 5 and Sept. 6, will air as a single broadcast on Saturday, Sept. 12, on FXX at 8 p.m. Hulu streams the broadcast Sunday, Sept. 13.
