Farmington Hills residents can tour city departments and meet the staff behind local services at the annual Citywide Open House on Saturday, Oct. 3.
The free event runs from noon to 3 p.m. on the Farmington Hills City Hall campus, 31555 W. Eleven Mile Road, at the corner of Eleven Mile and Orchard Lake roads. It goes on rain or shine.
Oakland County 115 reported that visitors can explore city departments, learn how services work and try hands-on activities for all ages. Free hot dogs and Kona Ice will be served while supplies last.
Acting City Manager Karen Mondora announced the open house at the city council's Aug. 10 meeting, calling it a free, family-focused afternoon on the municipal campus.
Getting there
The city is offering free parking and a shuttle from the east lot of Oakland Community College's Orchard Ridge Campus, 27055 Orchard Lake Road. No details on shuttle frequency have been released.
Residents who drive directly to City Hall can enter from Eleven Mile Road or Orchard Lake Road.
A tradition going back two decades
The open house has been a Farmington Hills fixture for roughly 20 years. A 2007 city newsletter billed that year's edition as the third annual, placing the event's origins around 2005. A 2022 city newsletter advertised the Oct. 8, 2022, open house on the same campus.
This year's event is one hour shorter than some past editions, which ran until 4 p.m. The 2026 version wraps at 3 p.m.
Residents can find more details on the city's website, fhgov.com.
