The Farmington Falcons boys varsity soccer team picked up a 1-0 home win over the Avondale Yellowjackets on Friday, Sept. 25, earning the program's third victory of the season.
The shutout moved Farmington to 3-11-2 overall. Avondale, based in Auburn Hills, dropped to 8-8-1 with the non-conference loss.
Farmington's defense held the Yellowjackets scoreless through both halves, but the identity of the Falcons' lone goal scorer was not reported in MaxPreps match data.
The result caps an up-and-down stretch for the Falcons. Farmington beat crosstown rival North Farmington 3-2 on Sept. 21 after the two teams played to a 1-1 draw on Sept. 15, then fell 1-0 to Livonia Franklin on Sept. 24 before beating Avondale. The Falcons have won two of their last three matches after opening the season 1-10-2.
The turnaround has come mostly at home, where Farmington holds a 3-8-1 record. On the road, the Falcons are 0-3-1. Through 16 games, Farmington has scored 17 goals and allowed 32, good for a .250 win percentage, according to MaxPreps. The Falcons sit at No. 284 in the statewide MaxPreps rankings and No. 98 among Michigan Division 1 programs.
Despite the rough overall record, the late-season wins offer a boost heading into the final stretch of the regular season. Farmington entered the year in a competitive Oakland Activities Association (OAA) landscape and has faced a demanding schedule that included multiple losses by narrow margins early on.
Farmington travels to Livonia Stevenson on Monday, Sept. 28 for a 7 p.m. non-conference match. Stevenson enters at 7-4-4 on the season. No additional Falcons soccer dates beyond Monday's match have been confirmed on the school's athletic calendar.
