The Farmington Y is throwing a free Halloween party for families on Friday, Oct. 23, with trick-or-treating, crafts, a bounce house and Kona Ice at its Farmington Hills location.

The event runs from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at 28100 Farmington Road. No YMCA membership is required. Costumes are encouraged.

The YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit, which operates the Farmington branch, said on its official event page that the Halloween celebration is open to the public and free for all. The organization is hosting similar free events at YMCA branches across Metro Detroit throughout October, including locations in Royal Oak, Mount Clemens, Southgate, Detroit and Milford.

The Farmington Y event is one of several Halloween options for local families this month. The Farmington Hills Police Department (FHPD) and Faith & Blue will host a separate Trunk-or-Treat on Saturday, Oct. 10, from noon to 3 p.m. at the Costick Activities Center, 28600 W. Eleven Mile Road. The free event will feature Police Chief John Piggott and other department members alongside community partners, according to a city announcement. The Burger Spot food truck will be on site with food available for purchase.

"This Faith & Blue event is one more example of our commitment to our community," Piggott said in the announcement.

Heritage Park will also host a Boo Bash on Sunday, Oct. 25, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. That event features hayrides, s'mores and candy-free trick-or-treat stations for preschool through third grade, according to the Farmington Hills recreation events calendar. Tickets cost $15 for residents and $20 for non-residents, and pre-registration is required.
