Families can trade flashlights for moonlight Friday, Aug. 28, when the Farmington Hills Special Services Department hosts its next Full Moon Fridays guided hike at Heritage Park.
The one-hour walk starts at 9:30 p.m. at the Heritage Park Nature Center, 24915 Farmington Road. Hikers follow trails through the park listening for nocturnal animals and observing the night sky. Children ages five and older are welcome.
No flashlights needed.
There's a small per-person fee to participate, according to the event listing. Pre-registration is required and available online or by calling 248-871-2500. Walk-in registration is available the night of the hike, but space is limited. The hike will be canceled in inclement weather, with refunds issued.
The Aug. 28 outing is one of four remaining dates in the 2026 Full Moon Fridays series, which runs guided walks on select Fridays from spring through fall. Heritage Park, which draws more than 750,000 visitors a year according to city records, offers more than six miles of hiking trails managed by the Special Services Department across its 600-plus acres of parkland.
The remaining Full Moon Fridays after Aug. 28 shift to an earlier time slot of 8 to 9 p.m.:
