Nardin Park United Methodist Church will bless students' backpacks at its Sunday, Sept. 20, service in Farmington Hills.
The 11 a.m. ceremony will recognize education leaders, youth, children and tutors, according to the church's website. Children and youth are encouraged to bring their backpacks to receive the blessing.
The church invited staff from Beechview Elementary, a Farmington Public Schools building in Farmington Hills, to join the congregation for the morning. Sarah Root, who authored the announcement on the church's website, wrote that the service is meant to celebrate students and educators as the school year begins.
