North Farmington outlasted South Lyon 44-38 in overtime Friday, Sept. 25, pushing the Raiders to 4-1 on the season.

The Lakes Valley Conference (LVC) matchup at North Farmington High School capped a week in which South Lyon's Carter McGlinch had called out the Raiders by name. After his team's 49-18 rout of Milford on Sept. 18, McGlinch told The Oakland Press, "Now, hopefully (we beat) North Farmington next week. Let's do it."

The Raiders answered.

North Farmington needed extra time to do it, but the win extended the team's streak to two straight after a 72-14 rout of Walled Lake Central on Sept. 18. The Raiders' lone loss this season remains a 35-34 defeat against South Lyon East on Sept. 10.

Through five games, head coach Jon Herstein's squad has outscored opponents 218-126. North Farmington sits third in the LVC at 3-1 in conference play. The roster features senior quarterback Elijah Cobb, junior running back Logan Murphy, senior receiver Jamir Rentie and senior lineman Gabe Jankowski, a Wayne State commit, according to MaxPreps.

South Lyon dropped to 3-2 with the overtime loss. McGlinch, along with running back Tyler Newton and Eastern Michigan commit Gannon Limotte, fell short after the pregame challenge.

The result sets up a pivotal Week 6 matchup. North Farmington travels to Milford at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, for a conference clash between two 4-1 teams. Milford holds the No. 2 spot in the LVC standings at 3-1. The Mavericks' only loss came at the hands of the same South Lyon squad, 49-18, on Sept. 18. Milford rebounded with a 46-10 win over Livonia Churchill on Sept. 25.

After the Milford trip, the Raiders face Stevenson on the road Oct. 9 and host rival Farmington on Oct. 16. North Farmington closes the regular season at Walled Lake Northern on Oct. 23.
