A new bagel restaurant is filling the vacant Joe's Coney Island storefront at 34635 Grand River Ave. in Farmington.

NYC Bagels & Bowls posted hiring announcements to neighborhood social media groups on Aug. 12, recruiting baristas, cashiers and restaurant staff for the location. The business has not announced an opening date but describes itself as "coming soon."

The planned menu includes bagels, cream cheese spreads, breakfast and lunch items, and coffee drinks, according to a Patch newsletter that aggregated the business's Nextdoor post from the Farmington Village Area neighborhood.

A Glassdoor listing for a barista position at the Farmington location advertises pay between $12 and $25 per hour. Open positions also include cashiers and general restaurant staff. Applicants can email resumes to [email protected].

Joe's Coney Island, which previously occupied the space, is permanently closed according to its Yelp listing.

The arrival fits a gap that city planners have already identified. A July 2025 market analysis the City of Farmington Hills commissioned from Gibbs Planning Group found demand for four to six quick-casual restaurants along East Grand River Avenue by 2028, specifically naming bagels among the underserved food categories. The study estimated new retail businesses on the corridor could capture $30 million in consumer spending currently leaving the southeast Farmington area.

The city's Summer 2026 economic development newsletter echoed those findings, noting the corridor has market capacity for approximately 15 new storefronts and six additional restaurants.
