An Oakland County committee has cleared $314,160 in road improvement funds for Farmington Hills, sending two projects to the full Board of Commissioners for a final vote.

The Economic Development and Infrastructure Committee voted 4-0 on Aug. 6 to recommend the appropriations through the Tri-Party Road Improvement Program, according to committee meeting minutes. The funds would come from the county's Non-Departmental Transfers account and amend the fiscal year 2026 budget.

The larger share, $203,733, goes to Project No. 57891. The second appropriation, $110,427, covers Project No. 57881. The minutes do not name the specific roads tied to either project.

Commissioner Gwen Markham moved to approve both items as part of the consent agenda. Commissioner Linnie Taylor seconded. Committee Chair Yolanda Smith Charles of District 17 presided, with Robert Smiley also voting in favor. Philip Weipert attended remotely as a non-voting member. Commissioners Brendan Johnson and William Miller III were absent with notice.

The Tri-Party Road Improvement Program splits costs among Oakland County, the Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) and local cities. Farmington Hills is already in the middle of a busy construction season. The city announced roughly $30 million in road and infrastructure work for 2026, funded by a federal grant, the 2018 and 2024 road millages and the city's water fund.

The RCOC and Farmington Hills are also partnering on a $3.3 million resurfacing project on 12 Mile Road from east of Orchard Lake Road to Autumn Ridge Road, paid in part through Tri-Party funds. A separate $12 million, two-year project on 12 Mile Road from Novi Road to Farmington Road involves both Farmington Hills and Novi.

The full Oakland County Board of Commissioners is scheduled to vote on the appropriations at its Thursday, Sept. 17 meeting at 6 p.m. in the Board of Commissioners Auditorium, 1200 N. Telegraph Rd., Pontiac.
