Farmington and Farmington Hills residents have more than half a dozen community programs, classes and one public meeting to choose from over the next two and a half weeks, from an AI-focused library workshop Monday to a two-day family camp at Zhong Shu Temple in mid-August, according to community listings on Patch.
The week starts with two free offerings at the Farmington Community Library's Farmington Hills branch, 32737 W. 12 Mile Rd. A Digital Literacy Hands-On session on understanding AI in web searches begins at noon Monday, Aug. 10, in the Computer Lab. Registration is required, but no prior tech experience is needed. That evening at 6:30, the library hosts its ESL Conversation Group at the same location.
All library events are free.
On Tuesday, Aug. 11, kindergarten teacher Mrs. Marietti leads a "Get Ready for Kindergarten!" session at the library's Farmington branch, 23500 Liberty St., at 6:30 p.m. Families will learn what children need for a successful start to school and can check out the library's new Getting Ready for Kindergarten Kits. No registration or library card is required.
Also Tuesday, the Farmington Public School District Board of Education meets at 6 p.m. at the Maxfield Education Center, 32789 W. 10 Mile Rd., Farmington.
The following weekend, Zhong Shu Temple opens its doors Saturday, Aug. 15, and Sunday, Aug. 16, for a two-day family summer camp at 23845 Middlebelt Rd., Farmington Hills. Sessions start at 1 p.m. each day. Families should contact the temple directly for registration, cost and eligibility details.
Starting Tuesday, Aug. 18, Oakland Community College offers a Birdwatching 101 course running through Aug. 29, with sessions beginning at 6 p.m. The multi-session course spans two weeks. Specific class days within that window have not been published; check with OCC for the full schedule.
Two recurring programs round out the stretch. The Yard to Table weekly garden skills series, held Wednesday evenings at St. John Lutheran Church, 23225 Gill Rd., Farmington Hills, continues through at least Aug. 26, with sessions starting at 6 p.m. And every Saturday, the Farmington Farmers Market runs 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sundquist Pavilion in Riley Park, Grand River Avenue at Grove Street, through Nov. 7, according to Oakland County Moms.
